HOW TO PREPARE FOR A SITTING
II

hat to wear? What suit, what dress and head covering to prepare for the portrait? This is not a simple decision, and here the choice should be made both by the artist and by the model. A lot depends on this choice. If you intend to have a more official, solemn portrait, then your outer appearance should emphasize this direction. Sometimes, the portrait model wishes to wear a symbol of his or her profession (for example, a white jacket or an open book in the hands). All of this is a completely legitimate desire, and the artist will be your partner in coming to a decision. If other objectives are involved, then you have to find the appropriate dress. This is almost like in the theatre. There you also strive for the utmost harmony of the scenic image with the actor's costume.

aturally, the artist should take part in choosing what to wear. Discuss options with him. Get advice about all of the details. You can bring to the artist's studio a few important accessories to choose from.
