     n the artist's studio, there is always decorative cloth, as well as various other elements of dress, that could be used to suggest color, texture and style. It's important not to forget that the artist is not a photographer. In a graphic studio portrait it's always possible to later change the dress, in order to strengthen the exact "impact" with color, shape and texture. The artist needs a decorative "tuning fork", and details of dress and head coverings often arise during the work process itself and, especially, in the final completion stage.

     any artists (and I among them) often add into the portrait a realistic background, with its own type of decoration that reveals something about the model. In preparing for the portrait, think about some of your preferences. Your suggestions will probably help him in making this decision.
